One Basic Truth About Health

Posted on 2010-12-23 06:03:43

As a chiropractic physician my practice includes caring for many fine medical professionals from nurses to medical physicians and we all have one thing in common.  The knowledge that the body is a self healing organism that struggles to stay healthy despite the stress we subject our body's to on a daily basis.  All doctors know as do most patients that the brain and nervous system controls and coordinates all body functions.  Modern chiropractic is unique in that it is the only health care system in the world whose doctors spend a minimum of 8 years studying how to remove musculoskeletal stress from this magnificent and amazing system.  This care is done through a system of gentle adjustments whose primary goal is to allow our nervous system to restore and regulate health.  Chiropractic works, it does not involve the use of drugs or surgery and should be at the vanguard of health reform.  Chris

Peripheral Neuropathy?

Posted on 2010-12-22 08:56:36

Millions of Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy, damage to the nerves that supply your arms or legs.  When there is an interruption in the body's ability to transmit nerve messages to your muscles, skin, joints or organs your quality of life is impaired but most serious is the irreversible damage that can occur.  Modern chiropractic care including special therapy modalities have given us  the ability to help many patients who have given up hope.  Chris

Where's HFCS?

Posted on 2010-12-22 08:02:49

It's everywhere.  High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)  is in most sugary cereals, soft drinks, juice pouches, jams and salad dressings, sauces, ketchup, canned fruit, cookies and crackers.  It's even in canned ravioli and pasta meals, canned soups, peanut butter, , breakfast snack bars, coffee and energy drinks.  In fact, check your pantry and you'll discover that most of your foods contain high-fructose corn syrup; even the ones with no business having any added sugar.  When children and adults eat food in its natural form, get exercise, and chiropractic care we will see healthier children and adults.  The use of dangerous prescription drugs can be reduced,  and meaningful health care reform will begin.  Chris

The Whole Truth

Posted on 2010-12-16 09:11:29

Eating whole foods is a critical part of becoming and  staying healthy.  Whole foods are loaded with nutrients, vitamins and fiber.  Processed foods are often stripped of these vital components.  Studies have shown that a diet of whole foods can reduce the risk of  cancer, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.  Check these tips out.

Avoid canned vegetables

Buy fresh or frozen vegetables

Avoid juice from concentrate

Buy whole and fresh vegetables

Avoid foods out of season and do buy foods in season

Avoiding The Surgery Pitfall

Posted on 2010-12-16 05:56:43

We fully recognize that in some cases, immobility and intolerable pain may leave some patients no choice other than to risk surgery.  A great percentage of back and neck pain patients can avoid surgery with a three week trial of chiropractic.  While in some small percentage of cases I advise my patients to consult a surgeon most respond to conservative care, exercises and lifestyle modification.  With the modern chiropractic techniques used in our office there is little if any discomfort with chiropractic adjustments.   Most patients,  even when in pain report the Pro Adjuster care feels soothing and gentle. Table Talk

Posted on 2010-12-15 07:14:01

The more often children have dinner with their parents, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs.  I urge parents to arrange their schedules and their outside activities so that they can have frequent family dinners.

Fibromyalgia Patients Can Feel Better Without Drugs

Posted on 2010-12-14 07:05:51

Having cared for hundreds of patients with fibromyalgia there have been few who didn't experience substantial relief and improved function with chiropractic care.  There have been many who greatly reduced their dependency on drugs.  The key in caring for these patients is the chiropractic adjustments must be very gentle.  The computerized Pro Adjuster enables our care to  be so gentle and effective for these patients.

No Body's Fool

Posted on 2010-12-13 07:38:33

I'm always excited when a new patient says  Dr. Johnson I'm tired of taking pills and just covering up my symptoms. Can we find what's causing my pain and if possible correct it???Music to my ears.  More patients are questioning the long term use of pain medication to simply cover-up symptoms(the body's warning system) .  When patients begin thinking more about the true meaning of health,  chiropractic is a natural drug-free approach that  can play a wonderful role in a patient's well being.     Chiropractic is not a substitute for good medical care but it can help many patients achieve better health and reduce the need for pain meds.

Vitamin Mystery

Posted on 2010-12-09 08:18:18

Many patients express confusion about what and how many vitamins/supplements to take.   For most patients a good multi-vitamin taken with food is a good start.  Centrum, One-A-Day are good inexpensive vitamins to supplement our nutritionally poor diets with.   Some patients should be supplementing diets with calcium, vitamin D among others but these are recommendations easily made by your chiropractor.  If you are taking prescription drugs always let your chiropractor or medical doctor know so any potential complications with supplements can be avoided.  This is especially true with herbs.

Friendly Staff and treating people with respect!!!!!!!!

Posted on 2010-12-08 07:32:30

Patients often comment on how friendly my staff members  are and that's the way it should be.  We treat each other with respect and really like each other.  When a person cares for and about people "being nice comes naturally".  It amazes me how unfriendly many doctor's offices are.  Is smiling and being genuinely nice really that difficult?  Let's all start being nicer to each other.  Seems like such a little thing yet it can make for happier and healthier people.

Inflammation and chiropractic care

Posted on 2010-12-07 07:31:51

Inflammation plays a key role in many chronic conditions and this is so true in the progression of degenerative  disc disease.  While over-the-counter and prescription drugs may mask inflammation they do little if anything to correct the cause of inflammation.  Most all experts agree that back pain is primarily a structural problem and there is no healthcare professional more trained and qualified to treat structural abnormalities than today's well trained chiropractic physician.  How much needless pain and suffering could be prevented with chiropractic care??? I can tell you from 25 years of private practice that much pain and suffering can be prevented with modern, affordable chiropractic care and the 84 billions of dollars for spine surgery could be saved .

Brachial pruritis

Posted on 2010-12-02 07:48:37

Brachial pruritis is a condition characterized by burning and or itching in the arms.  Causation is due to nerve damage from sun exposure or nerve irritation/compression  of nerves in the neck(these are brachial nerves).   Many patients do not realize that gentle chiropractic care and adjustments of the cervical/neck nerves has been very helpful for many patients.
