It's sad, but true.  Obesity is the classic illustration of why America's healthcare system is tragically flawed.  As more American adults and children become overweight and obese the medical profession has a multi-billion dollar solution and guess what it is?  More drugs and more surgery.  This insanity has spawned a healthcare system that is now @ 2.6 trillion dollars annually and growing each day.  When a country's healthcare system is built on treating disease, there is little motivation to provide wellness.  Oh, yes there's plently of the token wellness programs, but little true support for doctors that focus on wellness and disease prevention.  Most insurance companies  will pay for billions of dollars of surgery, but there is scant payment and severe limitation if you wish to see a doctor whose core focus is wellness.  Obesity is good for business if you perform gastric bypass surgery, it's good for business if you're in the hip and knee replacement business, it's good for business if you treat diabetic patients and the list goes on.  So yes obesity really is good for business.  We need a different direction in healthcare and the only one who can effect that change is you, the patient.  Dr.Johnson
